Auditoriums
Auditoriums pose unique air quality concerns due to their intermittent occupancy. These spaces may hold up to 150 people per 1,000 square feet when fully occupied, but HVAC operation is still required to maintain temperature when unoccupied. To address air quality concerns, ASHRAE 62-1989 recommends introducing outside air at a rate of 15 CFM per person. However, since air filtration is primarily challenged during occupied periods, the change-out period for final filters and carbon can be extended during unoccupied periods, when only re-circulation is necessary to maintain temperature. This approach allows for outside air introduction to be minimized, resulting in energy savings.
